While most of us are still enjoying revamped games such as ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3’ on our PlayStation 3, it seems that its developer Sony is already hard at work with its successor: the Sony PlayStation 4. Make no mistake – Sony plans to follow up on what is currently the most powerful gaming system on the market. Masaru Kato, the company’s EVP and chief financial officer has announced that the production costs for this newly-anticipated machine have been factored in their yearly financial statement, and that its development is certainly under way. The release date still hasn’t been announced, but for us die-hard gamers it’s enough to know that it’s coming. So now that Sony has opened up a bit about their upcoming PlayStation 4, what can we expect?

Seeing as the PS3 already boasts high-end technology such as featuring a Blu-ray optical drive, XDR memory, and Cell central processing unit, similar if not improved components will be utilized in the Sony PlayStation 4 in order to not dramatically change the way the console’s programming works. Granted, high-tech software usually means a high-cost machine, but gamers need not be scared of the PS4 burning right through their savings accounts. Sony is aware of the mistakes they made with the PS3’s enormous base price, which was evident in the console’s significant increase in sales when the exorbitant initial cost of six hundred dollars was slashed in half. Sony plans to use more affordable components with the Sony PlayStation 4 according to a certain Japanese website in order to allow it to compete with the Nintendo Wii. Being a controversial piece of machinery, the PS4 generated quite a lot of hype on the net, and there has been a recent surge of articles containing both facts and speculations.

Some speculate that the PS4, along with its future competitors from Nintendo and Microsoft, will no longer use discs, and instead take advantage of downloadable content; allowing gamers to play earlier parts of the game while the rest is downloading, much like video streaming. And of course, motion controllers are clearly quite popular, and Sony’s ‘the Move’ has already been seen by some to be more sensitive than the Wii’s system. These are just some of the various rumors circulating the net at the moment, and some gamers are clearly excited with the potential of the PS4 seeing as how technology has been improving non-stop. So start saving up – insiders say that the release date will be announced at the upcoming E3. The Sony PlayStation 4 is coming, and it may be sooner than you think.
